Training and Assessment

Transition to National Law (Grand-fathering)
Volunteers will be able to carry their qualifications or ratings into the new national system after 30 June 2018, providing an effective transition into the new qualification requirements and consistency of service provision.

Feedback from MSAR units has indicated  that the process is working well and in some cases has revealed areas where additional training may be required.  The positive approach to grand-fathering and the hard work being put in by those involved is very much appreciated.

Training program consultations
A provisional version of the MSAR Training program has been provided to training and assessment working group members for comment and initial feedback has been positive.

Once the feedback stage is complete, the training program will be put to the reform group for final approval and eventual distribution.

A series of workshops will be  planned for trainers and unit executives to introduce the training package, discuss tailored implementation  and  to  advise or recommended delivery processes.

Most MSAR units already have a training officer or a person responsible for training. Under agreements with each MSAR unit,  this position will be formalised and units not having a dedicated training officer will appoint a suitably qualified person. This is to provide a central point for training matters and the training officers will assist in delivering and managing training with their respective MSAR units.

Training Validation and Audits
Validation  is important to ensure that training and assessments being delivered is providing the right skills for the tasks being undertaken by MSAR volunteers.  A draft validation and audit process has been has been written and is awaiting approval.

Training audits involves ensuring the use of correct procedures, record keeping and compliance. The process will be put before the Training and Assessment Working Group before further progression.

Training schedule
The purpose of a training calendar, is to assist strategic planning, allow trainers and learners to manage their training and if relevant, provide opportunities for volunteers from other MSAR units to participate in training that may not be immediately available  to them.
