The 2013/14 season was undoubtedly a difficult summer for many communities across Victoria. A number of communities were affected either through direct losses or lived for long periods with smoke in the air and stress from heightened levels of risk.
Two of the world's biggest airtankers are set to form part of Victoria's response to a summer of significant fire risk. Victoria will be the first state in Australia to use the airtankers – a Hercules and an RJ – as part of the state's fleet.
Winning projects were diverse and included fire safety workshops, tourism initiatives, programs designed to better improve fire safety for migrant and disabled communities, a creative memorial and fence building projects.
