Victoria’s emergency management sector will recognise the vital role of women across the state, as part of International Women’s Day this Sunday 8 March 2020.

Deputy Emergency management Commissioner, Deb Abbott, said the day is an opportunity for people across the world to come together to recognise the contributions and achievements of women in our lives.

“We have amazing women in our emergency management sector in Victoria,” Ms Abbott  said. “Ensuring that the sector captures the diverse capability and talent of our community, and reflects our community as a whole, benefits us all.”

“The sector strives to be a contemporary collective, where women and men have an equal opportunity to work for and with the community.”

EMV is truly inspired by the thousands of women who already do amazing work in emergency management. Every step towards gender equity pays off. This is thanks to the skills, talent and leadership women have demonstrated in what was once a single-gender field.

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made on gender equality, and how much there is still to do. Working together – each for equal – will ensure that every woman and man can reach their full potential. Our communities’ safety depends on it.
