Footy fans will unite in support of the Victorian emergency services sector at two upcoming matches.
Hawthorn Football Club kicks things off with an emergency services themed practice match this Friday 28 February.
The Hawks will take on the Saints at the Morwell Recreation Reserve. The siren to start the match is at 4.30pm. Fans of both teams, and the game, can support local emergency services personnel who courageously tackled the recent bushfires in the Gippsland region.
Entry is free. Volunteers will collect donations for the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.
The day’s activities start at 2pm with the Gippsland Next Generation Academy match. This is followed by the BankVic Emergency Fun Zone from 3.30pm. From 7.50pm, big screens will show the State of Origin charity match.
Victorians are encouraged to make a day of it and support the Gippsland community by visiting cafes and retailers.

On the same day as the Morwell match, the AFL will host a special State of Origin game to raise funds for bushfire relief. This historic game will be played at Marvel Stadium from 7.50pm.
Damien Hardwick and John Longmire will square off as coaches for the Victorian team and All Stars respectively. Teammates from several clubs will go head-to-head at the highest level.
100% of proceeds will go to the AFL Community Relief Fund . The AFL established the fund to help rebuild football facilities devastated by the recent bushfires.
