Prepare to survive: Know the five

11 December 2018

Ending up in cool Victorian waters, even in summer, is one of the biggest risks to the safety of boaters and paddlers. Many underestimate the risks and overestimate their skills.

EMV is proud to be partnering with Maritime Safety Victoria on its latest boating safety campaign. Together, we want boaters and paddlers to understand that despite their experience it could happen to them, and they need to take action to prepare.

The five steps of preparing to survive include:

  1. Know the weather
  2. Practise getting back on your vessel
  3. Carry a distress beacon
  4. Lock in a buddy plan
  5. Wear a lifejacket

Our partnership will reinforce the message that boaters and paddlers need to share their plans with a trusted person on shore as a crucial part of their preparation.

MSV's 'Prepare to survive: Know the five' campaign will kick off in December 2018.
