Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) is working with our sector and the Victorian Department of Health (DH) to facilitate the COVID-19 vaccine rollout to eligible sector personnel. This is under phase 1b of the national vaccination program .
Phase 1b identifies critical and high-risk workers, such as police and emergency services personnel, as priority groups for vaccination.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is voluntary and free.
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends that for adults under the age of 50 years, the COVID-19 vaccine by Pfizer is preferred over the COVID-19 vaccine by AstraZeneca.
The COVID-19 vaccine by AstraZeneca can be used in adults aged under 50 years where the benefits are likely to outweigh the risks for that individual and the person has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits. People should consult their GP if they have any questions.
For more information about types of vaccines see about COVID-19 vaccines .
To help our sector make informed decisions, EMV and DH will continue to help agency representatives answer questions from their workforces.
The DH call centre is now accepting bookings for the 1b workforce to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at several high-volume vaccination centres. For a list of locations, visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au .
Walk-in appointments may be available, but personnel are encouraged to book ahead by calling 1800 675 398 (Select option 3 – option 2 – option 2).
