This week 55 students from the Buninyong Primary School Scotsburn Campus visited Ballarat Airport to thank emergency management personnel who responded to the grass fire on Nashs Road on 6 December.

Families of the Scotsburn campus and surrounding properties were affected by the recent fire and had to evacuate.

This was a reminder of the circumstances they faced two years prior with the then Scotsburn fire impacting property, livestock and the community in many ways.

Scotsburn students were keen observers of the aerial and ground support on the day and wanted to show their gratitude to the air and ground crews who protected their properties.

As part of the visit to Ballarat Airport the students hand-delivered letters of thanks to the crews in appreciation of their efforts.

CFA and FFMVic personnel were on hand with aircraft pilots to show pupils around aircraft and trucks.

Student Charlie Conroy said they had been learning what aeroplanes do at a fire.

“We have made cards to say thank you for saving us from the bushfire.”
