Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) has become operational today, bringing together all MFB career firefighters and staff with CFA career firefighters and relevant support staff.

From today, FRV will operate at 47 fire stations in metropolitan Melbourne and 38 regional stations, most of which are co-located with CFA volunteer brigades.

At the 85 stations, FRV will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and support volunteer response where required.

The reform of Victoria’s fire services also includes a realignment of CFA to a volunteer, community focused organisation.

Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp said FRV was one part of the big team focused on keeping the Victorian community safe.

“All our firefighters, whether that’s volunteer or career will continue our long and proud history of working as one to keep the community safe,” he said.

This reform is the result of extensive work and collaboration between MFB, CFA, EMV, independent experts, relevant unions and representative bodies.
